Today I made a quick trip to the restaurant & cooking essentials store Ecotel on Gilbert Street in the city. While I was roaming the isles admiring the enormous range of kitchen bits and pieces (they have literally everything from pots and pans to piping bags and cake moulds) my nose caught the most amazing scent of what seemed like something being caramelized!
I followed the scent to the left hand side of the beautifully modern warehouse-like Ecotel where there was a glass wall that only just stopped below the ceiling. On the other side of this glass wall was the kitchen, and that was where the amazing smell was coming from!! Straight over the glass wall and straight up my nose! Yum!
After completing my purchases at Ecotel (a place I will most definitely return to) I went next door to the very beautiful Dolce & Co cafe.
The glass cabinets were full of every flavoured macaroon you could think of and the cakes displayed were nothing short of stunning artwork.
There were so many different little sweets to choose from I stood for about ten minutes trying to decide.
Eventually, as it was only 10am I chose the raspberry brioche. A small muffin-like brioche serving laden with tart raspberries, the sweet & sour combination was perfect and it most certainly didn’t last long!
With the bench being varnished as I stood there I could tell that this was a very new little addition to Gilbert Street.
Only six weeks young and perfecting their recipes, the owners are planning to open up a few little dessert bars in the next six months!
